Teamwork on the Road

Who says law enforcement isn’t trying their best to find drug dealers?

What is amazing is that no matter how hard people try to hide what they are doing, it still seems to come to the surface eventually. Maybe it’s because their nervousness, which is an integral part of a guilty conscience about something, causes them to mess up. For instance, it seems that an awful lot of drug dealers get caught because of traffic infractions.

A story from September 1, 2011 tells of two young women from Teaneck, NJ who were driving across Iowa on Highway 80. Justine Magno, 27, and Allison Wolfe, 26, were tooling along around 5 pm, probably thinking about getting some dinner soon. This particular story doesn’t way why they were pulled over by the Pottawattamie County sheriff’s deputy. Other stories have told of large amounts of cocaine being found because a tail light was out. More often, it’s because someone is weaving in traffic or speeding. Too bad this one didn’t say. In any case, the deputy had a reason to pull them over on the eastbound, and a reason to feel suspicious about the contents. The two young women refused to let the deputy search their vehicle.

The deputy had a patrol dog with him, and the dog knew that there were drugs in the car top carrier. When Sheriff Sgt. Dwayne Riche followed his dog’s nose, he found 21 pounds of marijuana, over 2 pounds of cocaine, and 28 grams of hallucinogenic mushrooms inside that car top carrier.

Of course the two women were arrested.

They were headed east, so perhaps they had picked up their drugs in Iowa or west of Iowa somewhere and perhaps they were heading back to Teaneck NJ to make some sales. Maybe they were just the delivery team for the boyfriends back home – who knows?

The point is, another triumph for law enforcement and the K-9 members in particular. Having a drug-sniffing dog at hand is definitely a great way to be able to find drugs quickly on the site.
